In this thread I will cover most, if not all of wu-tang efforts. All their chapters including europe and world-wide chapters, all their solo efforts, associations, disses, conflicts as-well as information in up-coming projects and events.

Background info :
The Wu-Tang Clan are a New York City–based hip-hop musical group, consisting of eight American rappers. Among its members are multi-platinum selling solo artists, multi-platinum record producers, Grammy winners, TV and film stars, screenwriters, product spokespersons, business owners and, most recently, major motion picture composers. The Clan featured nine MCs until the death of Ol' Dirty Bastard in 2004.

Being one of the most critically and commercially successful hip hop groups of all time,Wu-Tang Clan rose to fame with their uncompromising brand of hardcore rap music. Since their debut, they have introduced or launched the careers of numerous other artists and groups, and already in 1994 there were credited to be over 300 Wu-Tang Clan affiliates, known as the Wu-Tang Killa Bees, consisting of rappers, producers, and record label CEOs.
Foundation and Name :
The founders of the Wu-Tang Clan were cousins RZA, GZA, and Ol' Dirty Bastard, who had previously formed the group Force of the Imperial Master (later known as All in Together Now after the release of a popular single by that name.) The group attracted the attention of some notable figures in the industry, including Biz Markie, but did not manage to secure a record deal.

“ All In Together Now was never signed to a record label. See, me, GZA and ODB had a crew called FOI: Force Of The Imperial Master, nahmean? We made a song, called ‘All In Together Now', which became famous on tapes throughout Brooklyn, Staten Island, New York, all the way down to Miami. I remember Biz Markie, when he was famous and I wasn't famous, and he was like: "Yo! I heard that shit! Your song with Ason Unique and the Specialist". I was the Scientist. So we never got signed as a group back then. We never had a serious record deal under that title. - RZA. ”

After the crew dissolved, GZA (then known as The Genius) and The RZA (then known as Prince Rakeem) embarked on their solo careers with Cold Chillin' Records and Tommy Boy Records respectively, but to little success. Their frustration with the workings of the hip hop music industry would provide the main inspiration to Wu-Tang Clan's revolutionary business plan. According to The Wu-Tang Manual, at the group's inception, RZA promised the members that if he had total control of the Wu-Tang empire, it would conquer the hip-hop world within a dynastic cycle, after which he would relinquish his total control. Wu-Tang Clan was gradually assembled in late 1992 from friends and accomplices from around Staten Island, with RZA as the de facto leader and the group's producer.

The name "Wu-Tang" is derived from the name of the mountain Wu Dang (Wudang Shan) in northwest Hubei Province in central China with long history associated with Chinese culture, especially Taoism, martial arts and medicine. The RZA and Ol' Dirty Bastard adopted the name for the group after seeing the Kung fu film Shaolin and Wu Tang, which features a school of warriors trained in Wu-Tang style. The group's debut album loosely adopted a Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang theme, dividing the album into Shaolin and Wu-Tang sections. The album also features several samples from the film directed by Kyle Ray Stuck.

The group has also developed various backronyms for the name (as hip hop pioneers like KRS-One and Big Daddy Kane did with their names), including "We Usually Take All Niggas' Garments," "Witty Unpredictable Talent And Natural Game" and "Wisdom, Universe, Truth, Allah, Nation, and God".

The fascination with the Chinese culture is born of out of the "Asiatic black man", a term a part of the Five Percenter teachings, also known as the "original man" which is featured on The 5% Album. The album is a solo record from Brand Nubian member Lord Jamar in collaboration with Wu-Tang Clan members and affiliates as well as other artists. The second track on the album is titled "Original Man" featuring Raekwon.
Now that I've cover some of the basic pre-history, I will start with the album who pulled them into the underground. Considered one of the classics in true HIP-HOP. Enter the WU (36 Chambers) 1993 it's still an album who any true hip-hop head can bang to. Including tracks like "Protect ya neck" and "M-E-T-H-O-D MAN" gave the group a true standing in underground hip-hop.

Iron Flag.
On Iron Flag, the rap assassins from Staten Island give you sharp reminders of what made them so brilliant. Knob twiddler extraordinaire RZA mishmashes obscure soul riffs and horn blasts on "Uzi (Pinky Ring)" and "Rules," upping the mixing-console ante. "Back in the Game" brilliantly utilizes the ubiquitous love croons of Ronald Isley over a sparse piano loop and scattered acoustic guitars, while Flavor Flav's guest rants on "Soul Power (Black Jungle)" take this one over the top. Sure there are a few toss-away tracks, like "Chrome Wheels," where the Clan lazily rip misogynist rhymes over an uninspiring Alexander O'Neal sample, but eclectic, low-bpm numbers like "Babies" more than make up for the crew's few shortcomings. Ol' Dirty Bastard, the only Wu banger who couldn't record on this album, is in some correctional facility smiling right now. --Dalton Higgins
8 Diagrams
The album's title is derived from the Kung Fu film Eight-Diagram Pole Fighter. The Clan, which has not released an album since 2001's Iron Flag, signed a one-album deal with Steve Rifkind's SRC Records in December 2006. The group's four previous albums were all released on Rifkind's now-defunct Loud Records.

On Sunday, August 5, 2007, at the Virgin Festival in Baltimore, RZA announced that the new release date for the album would be November 13, 2007, noting that this is the third anniversary of the death of Ol' Dirty Bastard. However, the date was pushed back to December 11, 2007.

In a released statement, group leader RZA commented on the need for the Clan's return:

“ This is the perfect time for us to come back; the stars are aligned. It's like when we first started with Steve. We put out real hip-hop at a time when it was turning into pop or R&B. We brought the focus back to the music in its rawest form, without studio polish or radio hooks.... People want something that gives them an adrenaline rush. We're here to supply that fix. How could hip-hop be dead if Wu-Tang is forever? We're here to revive the spirit and the economics and bring in a wave of energy that has lately dissipated. - RZA ”

At the public premiere of Wu: The Story of the Wu-Tang in New York, Cappadonna revealed that the Clan had recorded between 40 and 50 songs for the record, of which around fourteen would make up the album. Prior to the album's release, Loud.com issued a free 8 Diagrams mixtape containing exclusive and unreleased tracks, including "Thug World", "Life Changes", "Stick Me for My Riches" and "Weak Spot
Disciples of the 36 Chambers : Chapter I
Disciples of the 36 Chambers was a live album released in 2004 by the Wu-Tang Clan. It is a slightly edited recording of their set at the 2004 Rock the Bells concert in San Bernardino, California. All nine original members perform, which by the time of this show was an increasingly rare event. Even the elusive Ol' Dirty Bastard appears. Alas, he would die from a drug overdose by the end of the year. Including all of the solo albums by individual members, "Disciples of the 36 Chambers: Chaper 1" is the 36th album released. Ghostface Killah : Bulletproof Wallets.

Ghostface 3rd album, Despite a relatively positive critical reception, the album didn't perform well in the charts, struggling to sell more than 100,000 first week. The album was hampered during its production by sample clearance issues, which led to some tracks—such as "Flowers"—being heavily watered down, while other tracks (such as "The Sun") failing to appear at all, despite being listed in the liner notes.

Ghostface Killah blamed his record company, Epic Records, for the problems, and claimed that it hadn't been willing to financially back him in buying the sample clearance rights. Ghostface later left Epic, having fulfilled his contractual obligation with a Greatest Hits release, and signed with Def Jam.

THE OL' DIRTY BASTARD

Russell Tyrone Jones (November 15, 1968–November 13, 2004) was an American rapper who went by the stage name Ol' Dirty Bastard (often shortened to ODB). He was one of the founding members of the hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan.

Ol' Dirty Bastard simultaneously brought a measure of humor and a touch of the absurd to the Wu-Tang Clan. Often noted for his unusual microphone technique (critic Steve Huey writes of Jones' "outrageously profane, free-associative rhymes" delivered "in a distinctive half-rapped, half-sung style"), Jones' stage name came from a 1980 kung fu film entitled Ol' Dirty & The Bastard, the relevance of which was articulated by Method Man's assertion that there was "no father" to Jones's style.

Around this time, Jones gained notoriety when, as he was being profiled for an MTV biography, he took two of his thirteen children by limousine to a New York State welfare office to pick up his welfare check while his latest album was still in the top ten of the US charts. The entire incident was filmed by an MTV camera crew and was broadcast nationwide. [NOTE THE PICTURE ON HIS DEBUT ALBUM IS ACTUALLY HIS REAL FOOD STAMP CARD] LMAO!

During the 1998 grammys Jones rushed on-stage unexpectedly during Shawn Colvin's acceptance speech for "Song of the Year" at the Grammy Awards, and began complaining that he had recently purchased expensive clothes in anticipation of winning the "Best Rap Album" award that he lost to Puff Daddy. Before being escorted off-stage, he implored the audience, "I don't know how you all see it, but when it comes to the children, Wu-Tang is for the children. We teach the children. Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best. I want you all to know that this is ODB, and I love you all. Peace!." His bizarre on-stage antics were widely reported in the mainstream media.

UPLOADER'S NOTE : REST IN PEACE ODB, your humorous and bizarre attitude had us glued to your rhymes for years.

Method Man : Tical

Tical is the highly acclaimed debut album by Wu-Tang Clan member and hip hop artist Method Man. It was released by Def Jam in 1994 making it the first Wu-Tang solo album released after Wu-Tang Clan's debut, Enter the Wu-Tang.

It was a commercial success reaching #4 on the Billboard 200 and earning a platinum certification from RIAA on July 13, 1995. This success was driven by its two singles, "Bring The Pain" and also "Release Yo Delf", which boasts an interpolation of "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. The album is also critically hailed by many hip hop fans as a classic album. This may be attributed to the gritty production which was handled almost exclusively by RZA. Its success is matched by its influence as a major piece in the East Coast hip hop renaissance. It was included in Q Magazine's 50 Heaviest Albums of All Time.
